Deal Wright was born in Dillon, South Carolina, to Rev. Wilmer and Catherine Wright. One of 17 children, he relocated to Bristol at an early age, and graduated from Delhaas High School in Bristol, PA in 1965. A US Army veteran, Deal is the blessed husband of Pamela Reaves and proud father of Daniel Reaves Wright. Deal retired from USX Fairless Works in Morrisville, PA after 34 years. He is a 2003 graduate of the Orleans Technical Institute in Philadelphia with a certificate in Building maintenance. From 2004 to 2009, he worked with Interfaith Housing Development Corporation as a Construction Project Manager.
Deacon Wright, as he is affectionately called, is involved in a variety of community activities. Deal has been a member and leader at the Community Baptist Church of Bristol, PA since 1963. An ordained deacon, he has served as Sunday School Superintendent and as the Church Overseer. A charter member of the African American Cultural and Historical Society of Bucks County, Deal was elected its first president in 1995 and is now AAHCSBC’s current president.
Deal’s current project is researching the building known as White Hall, the 1870 boarding school known as the Black Civil War Soldiers’ Children’s Orphans School in Bridgewater, PA. He was also instrumental in the erection of the Harriett Tubman Monument completed in 2006. Since 2009, Deal has been working with the local Men’s Re-entry Program.
In his spare time, he is a handy man who enjoys wood-working and researching history, but enjoys, most of all, helping people.
